You might know this event because of the documentary Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru. This film was produced by Academy Award nominated filmmaker Joe Berlinger and it goes behind the scene of DWD seminar in Florida. This film captures both the life changing transformations of the participants in real time and the immense effort of producing this live seminar.
If you watched this documentary already, you would have remembered Dawn Watson. Here is an interview of her about how Tony's event changed her life:
Lessons Learned From DWD Seminar
#1. Frustration Is A Good Sign
Are you sick of feeling frustrated? You should not. Here's why: Frustration simply means you are about to have a breakthrough. No one decides to change their life when they are 100% satisfied and comfortable with their current results. It's when you get to the point when enough is enough and you are frustrated, you demand change.
#2. What’s The Question You Always Ask Yourself?
We all ask questions to ourselves all the time. In fact, it's our thought process. Thinking is about asking and answering questions. Questions control our focus and the quality of the questions we ask ourselves determines the quality of our lives. More often, we question unconsciously and we don’t even realize that until we are self-aware enough and discover what it is. So what's your primary question? Is it "Why me?"; "Why does it always happen to me?" or "How can I become better every day?" Choose your question wisely and answer them effectively.
#3. Master Your Values
We all have a unique set of priorities and values and how we organize them will determine our destiny. Understanding your means values and end values is very important. For example, one of your values is to make money. But is it really what you're after? After all, you want what money can bring to you. Is it freedom, a sense of security, significance or the need for self-pride? The lesson here is that often we are so busy pursuing means values like having money and we don’t achieve or forget our true desires (end values) such as a sense of freedom.
Whenever you have a difficult time making an important decision it’s normally because you are unclear about your values. Once you understand your true values, decision-making process becomes easier.
#4. Stay in Your Head You're Dead
We’re usually stuck in our heads when some big events happen in our life. We think about every negative outcome that could happen because our brain is designed this way. It's not designed to make us happy but to help us be aware of what could kill us. You’ll never be able to experience an extraordinary life if you are seeing life through fear. It's time to get into your heart and use its magnificent power.
#5. Our Entire Life Changes in a Moment
Many of us believe that it takes years or decades to change something but Tony explains that our whole life changes in a moment - the moment where we make a real decision and commit to it by following with real action. Without action, you haven't really decided. Once you make that decision, you won't go back to other options. It's like the saying that if you want to take the island, you have to burn all the boats.
#6. You Need Problems in Life
Most of us hate having problems and we do everything to avoid it. But it's what we need to grow. You cannot grow without going through tough challenges. These obstacles happen for us, not to us, and if we can realize this, we can take advantage of what life gives us in every situation and make the best out of it.
